Highlights from the Permanent Collection
Paintings at the Picker Art Gallery, 16th – 20th centuries
The Picker Art Gallery is the repository of over 11,000 works of art,
including nearly 900 paintings. Due to limited exhibition space,
the public rarely has the opportunity to see the majority of these
objects. In Highlights from the Permanent Collection, we offer a
sampling of our finest paintings from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries. One
sculpture, an outstanding portrait head in wax of Marianna Mattiocco
della Torre by August Rodin, will also be included. The paintings
range in subject matter from landscapes by well-known artists such as
Camille Corot, Maurice Prendergast, and Jean Dufy; to portraits by
Milton Avery, Alice Neal, and John T. Graham. A lovely seventeenth
century portrait of the young John Milton by Cornelius Janssens Cuelen
and a delicate abstraction from the Camas Series by Native American
artist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith will also be featured. The visual treasures in this
exhibition provide nourishment for the mind and for the soul.
